“ Live in Munich 1977 is a live album and DVD released by Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow in 2006. The concert was recorded in Munich on October 20, 1977, originally filmed to air on the German TV "Rockpalast" show. Repeated airing have led to numerous bootleg video and audio tapes of the show being available through the 80's and 90's. Although some fans believed that this set came from the same tour as the previously released On Stage (which was mostly culled from their 1976 Japanese tour), the performance on this release is actually from their 1977 European tour, a few months prior to the release of "Long Live Rock n' Roll", and it considered much stronger. The DVD release also features the three promotional videos for Rainbow's Long Live Rock 'n' Roll album, and interviews with Bob Daisley and former tour Manger Colin Hart.

Koncerty Rainbow dorównywały swoim poziomem koncertom Deep Purple- wciąż można było usłyszeć rozwinięte improwizacje, płynne przejście z jednego utworu w drugi i spontanicznie wstawiane pomiędzy utworami różnego rodzaju melodie np. z muzyki klasycznej.
"On Stage" został nagrany podczas trasy Rising World Tour. Oprócz klasycznych utworów Rainbow zawiera także cover wcześniejszego zespołu Blackmore'a, Deep Purple (Mistreated). Dodatkowo koncert urozmaicony jest znakomitymi solówkami i improwizacjami muzyków.

Ostatnia płyta Rainbow. Jak się pózniej okazało Rainbow jeszcze raz przypomniało o sobie. Jest to LP utrzymany w popdobnym stylu co 3 poprzednie albumy. Czyli taki elegancki i szykowny Rainbow. Składy się troszkę zmieniały, ale wciąż Ritchie na gitarze, a Lynn Turner na wokalu. Nie jest to może muzyka tak mocna jak na albumie poprzednim (przyp. "Straight Between the Eyes"). Sporo tutaj zmiennych nastrojowo utworów. Jest tu oczywiście radiowy hit w postaci "Street of Dreams". Jest też ostry i szybki "Drinking with the Devil". Również znajdziemy tutaj 2 nastrojowe, instrumentalne utwory kończące tą płytę.

Zmiany personalne towarzyszyły Rainbow przy każdej płycie, ale tym razem skład został zmieniony dość diametralnie. Chyba planował też dotrzeć do szerszej publiczności, w tym też i żeńskiej, bo na pierwszy ogień poszedł Ronnie James Dio. Wokalista doskonały, ale o nieszczególnej aparycji i wzroście dwóch wielkich wodzów IV RP. Na idola nastolatek się nie nadawał. Zastąpił go Graham Bonnet, krótko ścięty blondas w lustrzankach, pozujący na Jamesa Deana. Na szczęście wokalistą był również bardzo dobrym. Poza tym na klawiszach pojawił się Don Airey, na basie grał Roger Glover, który płytę również wyprodukował. Z poprzedniego składu ocalał tylko doskonały bębniarz – Cozy Powell. Mocny skład.

Było parcie na listy przebojów, ale kontrybucja nie była zbyt duża – „Since You’ve Been Gone” i „All Night Long” bardzo sprawnie pociągnęły album pod względem komercyjnym. Zresztą to fajne rockowe przeboje. Pozostałe utwory to klasyczny Rainbow. Jest świetny , mocno rozbudowany „Eyes of The World”, „Love’s No Friend of Mine” miało pewnie być w założeniu „tęczowym” „Mistreated” i trzeba przyznać, że jest. Jest też „Makin’ Love” do którego dziwnie podobny jest „Perfect Strangers”. Pozostałe utwory to motoryczne rockery. Graham Bonnet nie jest jednak tak dobrym wokalista jak Dio. Głos ma bardzo dobry, nieco wyższy niż Ronnie , ale momentami śpiewa siłowo tam , gdzie Dio poradziłby sobie w ciekawszy sposób. Ale w ogóle to daje sobie radę bez problemu.

Na box złożyły się trzy niemieckie koncerty grupy z września 1976 r. (Kolonia, Dusseldorf, Norymberga) zagrane w ramach trasy promującej drugi album Rainbow – „Rising”, przez wielu uznawany za opus magnum grupy, a także płytę definiującą brzmienie zespołu w składzie z Dio. Po przesłuchaniu „DT 1976” utwierdziłem się tylko w oczywistym przekonaniu, że płyty „Rising” nie można znać w oderwaniu od zapisów koncertowych z tamtego okresu. Dopiero w połączeniu z nagraniami na żywo (wcześniej znanymi we fragmentach z płyty „Live In Germany”, 1990) dostajemy pełny obraz tego, czym było Rainbow i dlaczego grupa cieszyła się taką popularnością. W koncertach z „DT 1976” nie ma słabego momentu. Błyszczą fenomenalne wersje „Mistreated”, „Catch the Rainbow” czy „Still I’m Sad”. Długie, rozimprowizowane solówki grają Tony Carey i Cozy Powell. Potężny podkład basowy zabezpiecza Jimmy Bain. Bezbłędnie śpiewa Dio. Na „DT 1976” słychać jednak przede wszystkim, w jak doskonałej formie był w połowie lat 70. Ritchie Blackmore, u którego notabene w tym czasie podobno zmalało zainteresowanie gitarą, a wzrosła fascynacja wiolonczelą. Jest w tych koncertach kwintesencja Blackmore’a zarówno jako rockowego wymiatacza, jak i subtelnego i ceniącego melodię wykonawcy. Nie bez przyczyny niektórzy twierdzą, że był to najlepszy okres w jego twórczości. I trudno z tym polemizować. Sposób budowania dramaturgii, finezyjne ozdobniki, dbałość o barwę brzmienia, a równocześnie efektowna wirtuozeria – wszystko to potwierdza geniusz Blackmore’a. I co bardzo istotne, przy gitarowym sztafażu wczesnego Rainbow na pierwszy plan wysuwają się zawsze przede wszystkim piosenki, które – owszem – są podstawą do kilkunastominutowych improwizacji, ale nigdy nie tracą przy tym dramaturgii czy tempa. Blackmore udowadnia na tych występach, że jak mało kto potrafi nie tylko łączyć muzyczne sprzeczności, ale także odpowiednio wyważyć rockowy efekt.

No-one packages a CD album quite like the Japanese. Known as a culture for elaborate and excessive packaging, their approach to the CD album is no exception. From the visual delights of the artwork and packaging, to the content itself, you will without doubt get your money's worth here. The inclusion of the famous 'obi-strip' not only adds a uniquely intriguing aspect, but is also a great marketing tool for the Japanese labels. The term 'obi-strip' is derived from the name of the piece of wide fabric - the obi - that a geisha woman wears around her waist over the traditional Kimono dress. An amazing amount of information is packed onto this little wraparound piece of paper, often noting special tracks, concert dates, discography information and release anniversaries. And, as this information is intended to be read in the home market, it�s all printed in Japanese kanji and ~kana script! Whilst they are safely sealed on new release CD�s they are often discarded once opened, so they should be considered a real bonus when intact on out-of-print CD�s.

In recent years we have seen the obi-strip occasionally replaced with a sleeve sticker, no less attractive and equally unique to the Japanese pressing. Japanese CD albums often benefit from extra music and new video-style content, to further entice the Japanese public to buy their native release and not an import. Non-album tracks and exclusive mixes often feature and there are a huge amount of 'Japan-Only' releases that do not have an equivalent release elsewhere in the world. Japanese pressings will nearly always include a lyric booklet or fold-out lyric sheet. These are dual-language, printed in both the ~kana script and in English, the latter often having some wonderful mis-translations!

Rising is a hard rock album by Rainbow, released in 1976 (see 1976 in music). Rising has become known as the best album of Rainbow's career. With founder Ritchie Blackmore retaining only Ronnie James Dio from the previous album, he recruited keyboard player Tony Carey, bassist Jimmy Bain and renowned drummer Cozy Powell to complete the new line-up. Recorded in Munich in less than a month, the album was overseen by famous Deep Purple engineer and rock producer Martin Birch.

The album marks Dio's first work with bassist Jimmy Bain. Bain would later play bass in Dio's solo band.

The showpiece is the 8 minute and 26 second piece "Stargazer", which has become one of Rainbow's most-famous tracks. This features the Munich Philharmonic Orchestra, reinforcing and enriching the riffs played by the band.

On Stage is a live album released by Rainbow in 1977. The album features a cover of a song from Blackmore's previous band Deep Purple; 'Mistreated'.

The album was recorded live over several German and Japanese dates in late 1976 during the Rising world tour. Many of the tracks were spliced together from different dates by producer Martin Birch, and the running order was changed to more easily fit four sides of vinyl.

The recording features the customary introduction to a rainbow show - the classic quote from the The Wizard of Oz (1939 film), "Toto: I've a feeling we're not in Kansas anymore. We must be over the rainbow!" with the last word repeated a couple of times.

A more representative example of a Rainbow concert of the time was the 1991 release Live in Germany.

Long Live Rock 'n' Roll is the third studio album released by Rainbow, released in 1978.

Although Bob Daisley & David Stone are listed on the album credits for their contributions they joined the band part way through the recording sessions and only appear on a couple of tracks. (Stone part wrote "Gates of Babylon" but was never credited). Blackmore played most of the bass parts himself for the album.

Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow (1975) is the first album released by Rainbow. It was recorded and released while lead guitarist Ritchie Blackmore was still a member of Deep Purple. Despite the modest chart success this album achieved, many musicians consider this album to be one of hard rock's finest moments. Lead vocalist Ronnie James Dio has called this his favourite Rainbow album.

Elf had supported Deep Purple on the previous year's tour promoting the band's 'Burn' album. This album marked the first collaboration between Dio and Blackmore, and it is essentially the lineup of Elf, Dio's previous band, with Blackmore instead of Steve Edwards. Blackmore would dismiss all the other Elf musicians and recruit new players for subsequent Rainbow albums.

Several songs on the album were cover versions. "Black Sheep of the Family", a song that Deep Purple had refused to record for their album Stormbringer, was a cover of a song recorded by Quatermass, and "Still I'm Sad" was an instrumental cover of a Yardbirds track.

The original vinyl release had a gatefold sleeve, although later reissues on the budget arms of Polydor reduced this to a single sleeve. This line-up never performed live and the live-shots used in the album art are of Blackmore in his Deep Purple days and of Elf playing live. The album's songs, however, have been performed by subsequent Rainbow lineups.
